July brings the yearly Outfest to La La Land, and this is the year of the lesbian. Lady inmates, extraterrestrial chicks and S&M girls along with special events and after-parties sprinkle this film fest with serious sapphic interest. The 11-day Outfest 2010 spans six venues and features 143 films from 25 countries, kicking off with the 14th Annual Outfest Achievement Award going to lesbian icon Jane Lynch. As an added bonus, lesbian-helmed Wolfe Releasing, the oldest and largest exclusive distributor of LGBT movies, writes history as it celebrates 25 years of bringing queer content to the masses, racking up myriad accolades along the way like the highly regarded, LGBT-focused Frameline Award. Join Wolfe Releasing at Outfest 2010 for this groundbreaking milestone. Below is just a sample of must-sees for the ladies—for a full listing,

We Have to Stop Now
Following the success of their book How to Succeed at Marriage Without Even Trying, two lesbian therapists attempt to maintain the pretense of their own contentment in front of documentary cameras—harmony and reality collide into a hilarious mess. Cathy DeBuono, Jill Bennett and Suzanne Westenhoefer star in this romantic comedy webseries-turned-full-length feature. July 9, 9:30 p.m., Laemmle Sunset 5, 8000 Sunset Blvd., WeHo. Pre-party: Truck Stop at Here Lounge, 696 N. Robertson Blvd., WeHo

My Normal
A young lesbian struggles to find the balance between her dreams of becoming a filmmaker and her lifestyle as a top dominatrix in the NYC underground. When a hot new girlfriend tilts the scales toward a traditionally normal life, she responds with the only way she knows how. Thank you, Mistress! July 13, 9:30 p.m., DGA 2, 7920 Sunset Blvd., Hlywd. After-party: Rockwell, 1714 N. Vermont Ave., L.A.

All Femme Friday
This Friday is exclusively for the girls at the DGA. Start the evening with a torrid tale of sapphic love when a preacher’s wife attempts to ignore a burning attraction for an out-and-proud lesbian writer in Elena Undone. An ostentatious friendship sparks a questioning of customs, and the struggles between rote tradition and personal freedom ensues. Immediately following, Girls’ Shorts presents a collection of drama and comedy, and everything in between, each told in 20 minutes or less. July 16, 7 p.m., DGA 1, 7920 Sunset Blvd., Hlywd. Post-screening reception at DGA 1 Atrium; After-party at Boobytrap, Palihouse, 8465 Holloway Dr., Hlywd.
